Christmas Trees

For the first time ever, we sold out of Christmas trees.  Dennis had a small forum of members after a meeting in January with a discussion of what we did right and wrong.  The consensus was that we did a lot of things right this year. The final tally is not yet in, but will be over $11,000.

Rotary Dinners

The Foundation dinner in November and the Christmas party in December were both well attended by Rotarians from our club and both were great social occasions where we had a lot of fun with Rotarians from other clubs and learned more about Rotary.

Membership

Several members have recently resigned, so we are looking a for new quality members. Please see Ted Fuller with names of prospective members.  He is planning a small fireside for prospective members only.

The PDF file of a new member proposal form is on our Tahoe Incline website, www.tahoeinclinerotary.org.

Workshop

On January 21 from 6-8 pm, there will be an energy efficiency workshop at the Parasol Building.  A separate flyer for this is attached.

Haiti Relief Effort

The Rotary Foundation has established the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund for U.S. Rotarians who want to donate toward recovery efforts after a powerful earthquake rocked Haiti on 12 January. You can also donate to www.ShelterBoxUSA.org, which has been very successful in getting help to Haiti.

Fireside

A Fireside for all members will be held at the Incline 3rd Creek Clubhouse on March 4.

Volunteer Opportunities

Bob Mimiaga and Mary Jurkonis are spearheading our club’s literacy project, in which members will volunteer to read at Incline Middle School during the lunch hour one-on-one with students. More volunteers are needed.

Rotarians have also been asked to volunteer when the Special Olympics come to Diamond Peak March 5-7. Email valerieo@sonc.org if you would like to volunteer. A separate info sheet is attached.

Upcoming Meetings

This week, January 21, weather permitting, our speakers will be Brian Befford & Pat Bruce from Friends of NV Wilderness.  Next week, January 28, we will hear from Chad and Allison again about their bicycle trip through Eurasia.  The first two meetings in February will feature the annual music and speech contests.  This week, John Clark will have tickets available for the Boosters Crab Feed, which will be on February 6 this year.

International Projects

Our 3H  eye program is up and running. The official grand opening is the end of this month. The training class starts on Feb 22. Most of the equipment has arrived, including the vehicle. Our commitments to RI for the Bukoba Playground Project n Tanzania have been met with members’ Rotary Foundation donations.

Local Projects

Our Relay for Life team has been registered so members can donate now at: Participant Center. In addition, our board has approved a $500 donation to Relay for Life, which will be on July 23-24 at Incline Middle School this year.  The board also approved $3000 for the Boys and Girls Club in Kings Beach and $1000 matching funds for the music program at Incline Elementary School.
