Meeting on January 29

Our speaker was Keith Hansen, who discussed weapons of mass destruction and nuclear proliferation.

Meeting on February 5

We hosted the club music contest and were treated to performances from five Incline High School musicians. The winners were: Justin Holets, Piano #1 ; Micah Johnson, piano, original composition #2 tie ; Jordan Smith, Bass, #2 tie; Autumn Burnett, viola, #4; Kyle Bahneman, Guitar #5. We awarded monetary prizes to all.

Meeting on February 12

We hosted the club speech contest where three Incline High School students spoke on the Rotary International theme this year of “Making Dreams Real”.  Each speech was impressive.  The winner was Erin Canino, and second place went to Jitana Alba.  The third place winner was Jackson Elley. Each student won a monetary prize.

Meeting on February 19

This was a meeting where we got to hear from Wend Schaefer, Jim O’Brien, and Fi O’Brien about their month-long trip to Kenya, Africa to visit Rotarians and Saint Mary’s Mission Hospital to see our club projects there and to plan more projects. They had a wonderful slide show and shared how meaningful the trip was. Wend worked at the hospital with the orthopedic surgeons there and Jim and Fi spent time teaching in the local elementary school.  They all attended several Rotary meetings with our grant partners.

Sunshine

Former President, Jim Jervey, had open heart surgery on January 16 and returned last week looking good.

Nicole Truax gave birth to a baby boy, Karter James, on Christmas day.  She is now on a leave of absence from school and Rotary.

Future Meetings

On Thursday, March 19th, we will jointly host the area speech and music contests with the other Incline Rotary club at the Parasol Building. The Music Contest will be at 4:00 pm and the Speech at 5:00 pm. We will be dark that day and expect our members will show up to support the event. The first place winners from both Incline clubs, the Tahoe City club, and both Truckee clubs will compete.

Membership

Several of our members have requested a leave of absence for financial reasons.  We hope that our country’s financial crisis gets resolved and they will be back soon.  Meanwhile, the board would like to see the membership increase, so be on the lookout for new quality members.

Sponsoring a New Member

The PDF file of a new member proposal form is on our Tahoe Incline website, www.tahoeinclinerotary.org.  After a proposed member has attended at least three meetings, please complete this form and turn it in to John Paganelli.
