Christmas Tree Sales

The members of the club are to be congratulated for all of their hard work, which will benefit the local community.  Unofficial records indicate that our profit was about $9,000 this year, which is more than last year, but less that our highest years.

Meeting on January 8

Dr. David Maddocks, from Greenpro Systems in Truckee, gave a very interesting talk about how to reduce energy usage.  At the end of the talk, he handed out some 60 watt equivalent CFL light bulbs.

Meeting on January 15

We were entertained by some of the 4th graders from Incline Elementary School. They showed off the new music program, which utilizes the Orff Approach to music education which uses rhythm, melody, and teamwork.  They were very impressive.

Meeting on January 22

Casey Canino, one of our scholarship students, visited to update us about her experiences at Cal State Fullerton first semester.  She is heading toward a BFA in Musical Theater and has really been enjoying living in Southern California, where there are many opportunities for her.  She has already secured a role in her college’s spring production of the Mikado.   Our speakers were Teresa O’Dette and Ephraim Schwartz from O’Dette Mortgage Group.  They gave a very interesting insight into the mortgage crisis.

Sunshine

Former President, Jim Jervey, had open heart surgery on January 16 to replace a valve.  We wish him the best.  All went well and he should be home by now.

Future Meetings

The music contest and speech contest are coming up, so you may be called upon to be a judge or timer. It is always great to see these talented students from Incline High School.

Meeting Room

We will no longer be meeting in the Cutthroat Saloon, which did not work well, so are temporarily back in Ciao Mein until the remodel begins.  When that happens, we will get a semi-permanent new meeting room, and will keep you informed.

Membership

Several of our members have requested a leave of absence for financial reasons.  We hope that our country’s financial crisis gets resolved and they will be back soon.  Meanwhile, the board would like to see the membership increase, so be on the lookout for new quality members.

Sponsoring a New Member

The PDF file of a new member proposal form is on our Tahoe Incline website, www.tahoeinclinerotary.org.  After a proposed member has attended at least three meetings, please complete this form and turn it in to John Paganelli.
