Meeting on December 4

Jim O’Brien talked to us about the Rotary Foundation.  He emphasized how important it is for each person to make a contribution.  A member can either designate the donation as restricted or unrestricted.  Restricted funds can go either for our international projects in Africa or for Polio Plus.

Jim also awarded new bejeweled Paul Harris pins to Bill Dupin and Ted Fuller.  A member becomes a Paul Harris fellow when he or she donates $1,000 to the foundation.  For each additional $1,000, the member gets a new pin with another jewel added on.

Meeting on December 11

Gary inducted our latest new member, Susan Lynnes-Parks, to our club.  Susie has visited quite a few meetings, so everyone should know her by now.  Her sponsor is Thalia Routsis.

Gary read letters from our two new honorary members, Al Kuckhoff and David Strongin.  They are both pleased with this honor.  Al was actually at the meeting.

Our State Assemblyman, James Settelmeyer, http://www.jamesad39.org/

spoke to us about the decisions that were made last week by our legislature regarding the budget shortfall.  He is a friend of Mike Menath and comes from an old Nevada ranching family.  He certainly was a straight talker and was quite informative and entertaining.  He represents district 39, which is for all those who live below the Mount Rose Highway.

Future Meetings

Bob Maxson, the current president of Sierra Nevada College, will speak to us on Thursday, December 18, but we will be dark on December 25 and January 1 because of the holidays.

A Note from Gary

Every member is expected to participate in our two fund raisers.

Dine Out to Help Out tickets are $50 each.  Every member should either purchase or sell at least 2-3 tickets.  The date to choose the winner has not been set. Bill Ferrell has DOtoHO tickets.

The Christmas tree lot still has some openings.  All able bodied members should sign up for 3 sessions at the tree lot.  Loanne Kuller has the tree lot sign up sheet.

Christmas Party December 15

We are holding our annual Christmas party again with the Rotary Club of Incline Village.  It will be at Patterson Hall at Sierra Nevada College on December 15 at 6:00pm. See Sandra Richards to sign up. This is a pot luck, so bring a side dish and your own wine. svrichards@sbcglobal.net.

Christmas Tree Sales

Currently, we have sold almost enough trees to cover our costs.  Everything from now on is profit. Please keep the money box fairly empty. Take money home and/or call Sue Welsch (831-1600) to pick it up. Keep up the good work.

Makeups

Marianne Ericsson reminds members to make up any missed meeting within two weeks before or after a miss.  Please email her at ericsson775@hotmail.com.

Remember, you can do a makeup online at

http://www.rotaryeclubone.org/

You can also visit the noon club any Monday noon at the Parasol Building.

Sponsoring a New Member

The PDF file of a new member proposal form is on our Tahoe Incline website, www.tahoeinclinerotary.org.  After a proposed member has attended at least three meetings, please complete this form and turn it in to John Paganelli.
