Meeting on October 16

Our first meeting in our new venue consisted of two talks from new Rotarians. First, Ginny Yates told us about growing up in Southern California as a jock and beach bum.  Next, Shawn Noe described his work with his wife in the financial field.  Both are welcome additions to our club.

Meeting on October 23

We were treated to another episode of Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, only Bill was not at the meeting to tell the story.  Ted Fuller talked about their 24 day tour of China, Tibet, and Hong Kong while a slide show of Bill’s photos was showing.  Eight Incline residents including Bill and Penny Dupin and Ted and Joan Fuller enjoyed the tour.  The photos were beautiful and interesting, even the many photos of Ted.

A Note from Gary

Every member is expected to participate in our fund raisers.  Our present two fund raisers are Dine Out to Help Out and Christmas Tree sales.  DOtoHO tickets are $50 each.  Every member should either purchase or sell at least 2-3 tickets.  The Christmas Tree lot sign up sheet is now being filled.  All able bodied members should sign up for 2-3 sessions at the tree lot.  Additional help setting up the lot, tree unloading, and lot breakdown will also be needed.  Bill Ferrell has DOtoHO tickets.  Loanne Kuller has the tree lot sign up sheet.

Oktoberfest on October 18

Loanne, Gary, and other Rotarians manned a Rotary booth where they sold DOtHO tickets and presold Christmas trees.

Future Meetings

We will have a speaker on Thursday, October 30, but we will be dark on November 6 because of the Foundation Dinner that evening.  If you have not yet signed up for the Foundation Dinner, please sign up with Gary. It will be at the Cottonwood restaurant on November 6, and the featured speaker will be a Chautauqua portrayer of Paul Harris.  This is a great opportunity to get to know members of Rotary clubs in Tahoe City and Truckee.

Hyatt Donation

During the month of October, the Hyatt will offer a special drink in the bar at the Lone Eagle.  It is a pumpkin martini.  Between the hours of 4:00pm until 10:00 pm on Wednesday and Thursday nights, twenty percent of the proceeds from these drinks will be donated to our club.  This could be a huge donation for us, so if martinis are your drink of choice, please support our club and visit the Hyatt on these nights next month.  There are only two more nights to see what a pumpkin martini tastes like and help our club at the same time.

We Moved

The Ciao Mein restaurant is undergoing renovation, so we are now meeting across the way at the Hyatt at Cutthroat’s Saloon until further notice.

A New International Project

Our board voted to partner with a club in Bukoba, Tanzania to apply for a project to build a playground.  Here is a synopsis of their request:

We want to build a playground for children in Bukoba, on the beach at Lake Victoria. During Sundays and holidays there are hundreds of people on the beaches. Here our dream is to build a playground containing nine swings, 6 baby swings, five slides by different sizes, a treasure hunt, see saws, climbing frames and monkey bars.We are planning to use local material and local handicraft, which will empower the local handicraft.
