Meeting on September 25

What a wonderful meeting.  We first heard from the two students who we sent to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy) in June.  Jackson Elley and Jill Colbert told stories of their personal growth that made us proud to be Rotarians and sponsor such a worthwhile program.  Next, Larry Jolley told us all about his youth exchange in Taiwan last year.  He showed us beautiful slides of the countryside and the city of Taipei, where he lived and attended school.  He clearly gained a lot from the experience.  John Clark was beaming and proud of his students, who all presented themselves well.  They all thanked us profusely for the opportunity that we afforded them.

Geno was back from his days at the air races.  He donated some of his tickets to the club, which Jim O’Brien and Barbara Richard purchased.  A good time was had by all.

Michelle Norris has resigned from our club.  Now that Scott is retired, they have decided to live full time in the desert.  I wonder if the downturn in real estate had anything to do with this decision.

Makeups

Marianne Ericsson reminds members to make up any missed meeting within two weeks before or after a miss.  Please email her at ericsson775@hotmail.com.

Remember, you can do a makeup online at

http://www.rotaryeclubone.org/

You can also visit the noon club any Monday noon at the Parasol Building.

Sink ‘em and Hold ‘em

There was a large turn-out of Rotarians at this event.  We participate by giving service instead of taking money.  The proceeds all go to the Children’s Cabinet and the Hospital Auxiliary.  Our service is lieu of at least $5,000 that we would normally give to each organization.  Once again, we brought home the poker grand prize.  Connie Skidmore barely beat out Bill Ferrall for the coveted bracelet.  Thanks to all who participated.

Hyatt Donation

During the month of October, the Hyatt will offer a special drink in the bar at the Lone Eagle.  It is a pumpkin martini.  Between the hours of 4:00pm until 10:00 pm on Wednesday and Thursday nights, twenty percent of the proceeds from these drinks will be donated to our club.  This could be a huge donation for us, so if martinis are your drink of choice, please support our club and visit the Hyatt on these nights next month.

Future Meetings

The schedule can be found on our website.  Please look at it and tell Bill Ferrall what the program will be for your week if it is coming up soon.
