Meeting May 8

Gary Lee took the podium in the absence of our president. Gary announced that our golfing foursome came in second at the district conference golf tournament. Sue Welsch announced that we were represented by several members at the conference and that it was an inspiring and successful event. Our club was not nominated for any awards, though, which was disappointing.

Our speakers were Jill Faman and Allison Becker, who are both Americorps members working for the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.  They gave an interesting talk explaining about a new program this summer for youth, ages 13 to 15.  This will be two youth back country backpacking trips, one for each gender.  They also handed out calendars to all who were present.

Sandra Richards reminded everyone about our fireside on May 15 at the Thunderbird Lodge.  Dress is any interesting costume. We will meet at the Lake Tahoe School at 5:30 pm and be bussed over for a buffet catered by the Blue Onion in lieu of our meeting that day.  Please RSVP to Sandra promptly if you have not yet done so: svrichards@sbcglobal.net or 220-9911.

Meeting May 1

.  Our speaker was Judge Bob Perry, who presided at the lawsuit of three Nevada Women against Wyeth.  These women all claim that taking Prempro, which is a hormone replacement therapy manufactured by Wyeth, contributed to their subsequent breast cancer.  One of the defendants, Arlene Rowatt, is from Incline Village. Judge Perry is the judge in District 9 of the Second Judicial District in Washoe County in the State of Nevada.  He discussed this case as well as the dire situation with overcrowded prisons in Nevada.
