VETERAN'S DAY PROGRAM

In recognition of Veterans Day, the Rotary Club of Tahoe-Incline will host a special program open to the public at 7 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, at the Hyatt Regency, 111 County Club Drive, Incline Village.
 
Brigadier General Joseph Shaefer (USAF, Retired) will present a talk entitled: “The First and Second Gulf Wars: What We Had Here Was a Failure to Communicate."  Shaefer will explore the lessons learned during those two earlier conflicts, and how those lessons were applied (or not applied) during the more recent deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
 

 

 
Shaefer is professor of Security and Global Studies at American Military University / American Public University and Senior Geopolitical Analyst with the intelligence and defense firm Omnis Inc.  He spent 6 years in Army special operations, including both Psychological Operations and Special Forces, and 30 more years as an Air Force officer, working primarily in joint intelligence.  Shaefer was commander of the Mobile Interrogation Teams in Desert Shield / Desert Storm, and later served as an air attaché to Myanmar.  He was acting Chief of Staff for Intelligence at Air Combat Command during Kosovo, and served on the AF Intelligence Crisis Action Team immediately following 9/11.  Shaefer concluded his military career as leader of the 1200-person reserve force at the Defense Intelligence Agency.  He holds a UN Institute Certificate in Global Terrorism and is a guest lecturer for a number of military and intelligence organizations.  Shaefer has been featured in Forbes, Barrons, Financial World, the Wall Street Transcript, and numerous other publications, and has been a guest on ABC, NBC, PBS, FNN and CNBC.
